Reject Protest, Uphold Election
May 5, 2005
At tonight's membership meeting, UAW Local
7902 members voted to reject a protest of the March 2005 election of Executive Officers, and to uphold the election and its
results.
At the meeting, the Election Committee presented two reports on the March 2005 election of Executive Officers.
The first report described the tally of votes for the position of President:
| J. Ward Regan | 218 | votes |
| Daniel Meltzer | 190 | votes |
| |
| Void/spoiled ballots | 18 |
The members present voted unanimously to accept this
report.
The second report described a protest of the election filed by Daniel Meltzer shortly after the election (no
other protests were filed). The report included the Election Committee's detailed conclusions about protest's validity.
In summary, the Election Committee recommended that the membership reject the protest, and in doing so, uphold the election's
results. If you are a member of Local 7902 and would like a copy of the report, please email your name and mailing address
to election@actuaw.org - a copy will be sent to you via regular mail.
After the second report was presented, many members, including Mr.
Meltzer, asked the Election Committee questions and offered comments. Then the members voted by secret ballot whether to accept
or reject the second report and its recommendations. 80 votes were cast:
- 67 Yes, indicating that the Election
Committee's report should be accepted, the protest rejected, and the election and its results upheld;
- 11 No,
indicating that the Election Committee's report should be rejected;
- 2 Void/spoiled (both had ambiguous marks
that could not be clearly understood as "Yes" or "No").
Mr. Meltzer has the option of submitting
the rejected protest to the UAW's President, Ron Gettelfinger, for review.
The Election Committee would like to
thank everyone who took the time to attend this meeting, and special thanks to everyone who offered questions and comments.
Executive Officers Elected
March 29, 2005
ACT-UAW's
first election of Executive Officers has concluded. Only one position was contested; the results of that race are:
PRESIDENT
| J. Ward Regan | 218 | votes |
| Daniel Meltzer | 190 | votes |
| |
| Void/spoiled ballots | 18 |
J. Ward Regan, having received the majority of valid votes cast, has been declared the winner.
Because there was only one candidate for each of the other positions, and because the election rules did not allow "write-in"
ballots, the Election Committee voted on February 25, 2005 to elect the following candidates to their positions by acclamation:
| FIRST VICE PRESIDENT | Joel
Schlemowitz |
| SECOND VICE PRESIDENT | Walter
Alvarez |
| FINANCIAL SECRETARY | Susan Hambleton |
| RECORDING SECRETARY | Cate Fallon |
| TRUSTEES | Kathleen A. Bishop Marie Dormuth Sylvia M. Gonzalez |
| SERGEANT AT ARMS | Roger Brown |
| GUIDE | Fred Murhammer |
